2009 Charity - Branbury House
Meriden Young Farmers charity for 2009 is Branbury House.
Bradbury House is a Respite Unit for Children and young People aged 5-19 who have a Learning Disability and a Challenging Behaviour.
Based in Binley Coventry we provide a flexible Respite package up to one week in six.
Bradbury House opened in 2002, but unfortunately we were only able to provide a sparse, uninspiring grassed area for a garden. Then in 2006 we were awarded ÂŁ35,000 to develop our garden area by the Kings Fund, through the Enhancing the Healing Environment Programme.
As part of the programme we worked in partnership with Service Users, Carers, Estates and other NHS Employees to develop a garden that was fun, therapeutic and stimulating. We undertook extensive fund raising activities; our motto being “Every Penny Counts”. Events included sponsored events, music evening, cake sales, penny collections, bike rides, muck shovelling, table top sales, raffles and we were fortunate to receive many donations from different sources.
The project to date has cost ÂŁ120,000, although we had our official opening in October 07 the Garden is far from finished. We still need to provide shade, lighting that is not only practical but funky and interactive. The planting area needs constant attention and replacements.
